Press Statement – ERB Expands Fuel Access to Chiengi District

The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has granted Luapula Oils Limited the authority to operate a newly constructed service station in Chiengi District.

This milestone marks the opening of Chiengi’s very first service station, highlighting ERB’s commitment to extending energy access to rural and fuel-deficit areas. Until now, residents had to travel nearly 135 kilometres to Nchelenge to obtain fuel.

The new facility is a containerized refuelling station constructed in strict accordance with the Zambian Standard, The Petroleum Industry – Code of Practice: Part 4 Aboveground Containerized Tank Installation. It fully meets requirements for safety, product quality, environmental protection, and occupational health.

Through this development, the ERB reaffirms its dedication to improving access to energy services across the country, with particular attention to underserved communities.

For information on requirements for setting up filling stations in unserved areas, the public is encouraged to visit the ERB website at http://www.erb.org.zm or visit ERB offices in Lusaka, Kitwe, Livingstone, and Kasama.
