The Energy Regulation Board has approved the Net Metering and Connection fees to enable the public to participate as producers and consumers (prosumers) of electricity on the national grid and support the country’s solar explosion. The Minister of Energy recently signed into law the Electricity (Net Metering) Regulations which were published in the Government Gazette dated 5th July 2024. The Regulations enable Distribution Network Service Providers such as ZESCO, to offer a net metering programme to its consumers. As part of its mandate, and in conformity with the Regulations, the ERB is mandated to determine and publish the reference tariffs, and to regulate and approve distribution use-of-system charges levied by a distribution enterprise on a wheeling prosumer.
