Pursuant to Section 18 of the Electricity Act No. 11 of 2019, the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) on 12 th April 2024 declared an Emergency on ZESCO Limited’s inability to meet national electricity demand due to reduced water levels in major water reservoirs arising from the prolonged drought situation over Southern Africa. Premised on the declared emergency, the ERB in October 2024, approved ZESCO’s application for an emergency period tariff for retail customers. This approval was granted after public consultation meetings.
