Request for Public Comments on Draft Zambian Standards for Biomass Pellets and Associated Gasifier Cookstoves

The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) is a statutory body responsible for regulating the energy sector and derives its mandate from the Energy Regulation Act No.12 of 2019.

The Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) is a statutory body established under an Act of Parliament, the Standards Act No. 4 of 2017 for the preparation and promulgation of Zambian Standards.

Section 4(h) of the Energy Regulation Act provides that the ERB in collaboration with the ZABS design standards with regard to quality, safety and reliability of the supply of energy. In this regard, the ERB in consultation with ZABS and other stakeholders has developed the following Draft Zambian Standards:

1. DZS 1272 – Biomass pellets specification;
2. DZS 1272 – Wood and Non-woody Pellets; and
3. DZS 1272 – Gasifier cookstoves;

This notice is an invitation for the public, as well as interested and affected parties, to submit comments on the aforementioned Draft Zambian Standards. Physical copies of these draft standards can be obtained from the ERB and ZABS offices at the addresses provided below. Additionally, electronic versions of the drafts are available for download from here, and the Public Enquiry Comment Form.

Please direct comments on the draft standards to either the Director General of ERB or the Director General of ZABS. All feedback should be submitted no later than Friday, 30^th October 2023.
